Jury Deliberation Schedule

The jury has determined it will deliberate from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They will take an hour-long lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. The schedule has the following exceptions:

Tuesday, May 24: Deliberations will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Friday, May 27: Deliberations will adjourn at 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 2: Deliberations will begin at 7:30 a.m. and adjourn at noon
Tuesday, June 7: No deliberations
Thursday and Friday, June 9 and 10: No deliberations
Thursday, June 16: No deliberations
Monday, June 20: No deliberations
Tuesday, June 21: No deliberations
Wednesday, June 22: Deliberations will adjourn at 3:00 p.m.
Friday, June 24: Deliberations will adjourn at 3:00 p.m.
Monday, June 27: Deliberations will begin at noon

This schedule is subject to change and further updates.

On June 22, jury deliberations began anew, after a jury member was released for health reasons and replaced by an alternate.

Questions from the Jury

The courtroom is closed while the jury is deliberating. They will return to the courtroom only to listen to portions of the evidence, when the verdict is announced, or if they have a question which the court must answer orally.

Whenever possible, questions from the jury will be answered by the court in writing. Shortly after the answer is provided to the jury, a copy of it and the jury's question will be added to the case's docket sheet.

If the jury returns to the courtroom to have the answer to their question read to them or to listen to portions of the evidence, the court’s staff will notify the attorneys and the wire services at least 20 minutes before the hearing is held.

If it is available, the Jury Assembly Room on the courthouse’s first floor will be used for a video feed of these proceedings; the room is sometimes used by jurors in other cases.

Announcement of a Verdict

The court’s staff will notify the attorneys and the wire services at least 30 minutes before a verdict is announced. This page will NOT be updated when a verdict is about to be announced.

Members of the media with reserved courtroom seats must show their court-issued credentials at the courtroom door to claim their seats. All other public and media seats in the courtroom will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at the courtroom door.

The court's rules prohibiting any cell phones in the courtroom and the use of cell phones in the Jury Assembly Room remain in effect and will be strictly enforced.

Speaking to Jurors

No one may speak to jurors, alternate jurors or their families about this case until the jurors have been dismissed by the judge.

The court’s Local Rule 47.1 prohibits the parties, their attorneys and their representatives from initiating conversations with jurors until the day after they have been dismissed.

On the day the verdicts are announced, any jurors who wish to speak to the media may do so in the courtroom. This event will be held 20 minutes after the jurors are dismissed. The court’s ban on cell phones in the courtroom and cameras in the courthouse will remain in effect. You must show a credential issued by a media organization to attend this event. Dismissed jurors will be free to speak to reporters outside the courthouse if the jurors wish.

A list of the names of the 18 jurors and alternate jurors who have served on this case will be released by the Clerk's Office 24 hours after the jurors have been dismissed.
