What steps are being taken to minimize my risk of exposure to the virus?

  • Several times throughout the day, our cleaning staff will clean frequently touched areas such as doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons/panels, countertops, phones, handles, toilets, faucets and sinks.  At the end of each day all juror occupied areas and common areas will be thoroughly disinfected.
  • Court staff will frequently remind everyone to practice social distancing and encourage the use masks in common areas [Courthouse Café (Birmingham location), elevators, hallways, bathrooms].  Gloves will be provided for those who choose to wear them when handling documents.
  • Items that would normally be “self-serve,” or passed out to jurors in the jury assembly room (juror badges, parking permits, pens, etc.) will now be placed in individual bags.
  • Elevators will be limited to 3 people at a time.
  • Modifications to our courtroom layouts will be made, as necessary, to allow for social distancing.
  • Jurors will be provided boxed lunches on the first day of service to eliminate the need for jurors to leave the courthouse during lunch (Huntsville location not included).
  • A COVID-19 prescreening questionnaire is being utilized to allow the Jury Administrator to excuse potential jurors who have the virus, may have been exposed to the virus or who have other COVID-19 related issues, prior to those jurors reporting to the courthouse.
  • Hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes are readily available for use throughout the courthouse, in the courtrooms, and jury deliberation rooms.
